During his last days in office as the 45th President of the US, the Trump administration has imposed visa restrictions on some unnamed Tanzanian officials it says were responsible for undermining the general elections last October.
Speaking about Trump’s administration to impose the visa restrictions, Michael Pompeo, outgoing Secretary of State, said those targeted subverted the electoral process and violated human rights.
According to him, the intimidation and arrest of opposition candidates, widespread voting irregularities and internet disruptions meant the polls were neither free nor fair.
A state department statement on the visa directive did not name the sanctioned Tanzanian officials.
However, on Wednesday, January 20, US Presidential- elect, Joe Biden will be sworn in as the 46th president of the US at Washington DC.
