Ghanaian international, Thomas Teye Partey, after completing his move from La Liga side Athletico Madrid has spoken for the first since becoming a Gunner.
According to the vice-captain of the Ghana Black Stars who recently completed a €45m move from Spain, he had sleepless nights when his agent told him that his move to Arsenal was going to happen.
Speaking in his first interview as an Arsenal player, Thomas Partey said, “Well, until the last moment I was not aware. My agent called me and said it was going to happen, and I was so happy. I could not even sleep that night – it was a great feeling.
“I was so happy, I was excited. I was not even here yet and [the fans] were crazy over me, they wanted me to join the club. I received a lot of messages saying, ‘Join the club or we are not sleeping!’ – it was a great feeling.”
He indicated that he was so happy and excited about how the Arsenal fans were sending him messages on his social media asking him to join even when his switch wasn’t materialised yet. He noted that “it was a great feeling.”

Speaking on Arsenal greats, the 27-year-old midfielder indicated that he has followed the London based club “for a long time.” He revealed that he used to watch Arsenal games when he was young during the 2004 season of the invincibles citing the likes Ian Wright, Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira, Pires, and Bergkamp as some of the players whose performance won the hearts of may.
“I have followed Arsenal for a long time. When we were young we used to watch so many games, when they had the Invincibles season in 2004, they were so great. That is when they won the hearts of so many people.
“There were a lot of great players [here at the club] before. Ian Wright was here, Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira, Pires, Bergkamp was one of the greatest, and that season was great.”
“Well, I feel so happy, I already feel part of the family because the fans have received me, everybody is saying nice things about me, and you know, being received like this is a great feeling,” Thomas Partey added when asked about how important it was for him to have joined Arsenal.
Addressing Arsenal fans, Partey disclosed his intentions to “make everyone feel happy.”
