Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President of Ghana, has taken a dig at John Dramani Mahama saying the Presidency is not a place for correction of mistakes.
After being voted out of power in 2016, former President John Mahama is seeking re-election to the Presidency, and as such, he has been telling Ghanaians that he will correct his mistakes if he is given a second chance.
But Dr Bawumia has shot down Mahama’s claim of rectification, indicating that the Presidency is a place for serious business, not a remedial class for correction of mistakes.
“The Presidency is not remedial classes for correction of mistakes,” Dr Bawumia said on Ash FM in Kumasi during an exclusive interview on Tuesday, October 13. “It is a place for serious work and serious business.”
Stressing on why John Mahama doesn’t deserve the seat of the president, Dr Bawumia said Mahama’s regime plunged the country into a state of mismanagement which saw the emergence of some national issues like dumsor.
According to him, the flagbearer of the NDC even in opposition hasn’t changed and “he says he will correct his mistakes,” an assertion Bawumia believes is not trustworthy.
“We all saw how badly he managed this country and the economy, which led to many problems, such as dumsor. They could not pay for basic allowances and services.”
“Even in opposition, he hasn’t changed and he says he will correct his mistakes.”
Questioning his credibility as the former president, Dr Bawumia cited some inconsistencies and contradictions that transpired during the Mahama-led administration. “Mahama is full of inconsistencies and contradictions. He says one thing today, and another tomorrow,’ Dr. Bawumia said.
Listing a few of those policy contradictions and inconsistencies to affirm his argument that former President Mahama lacks clear policies and vision, and can, therefore, not be trusted, Dr Bawumia made mention of how Mahama banned Okada during his time in office which today is a keynote of his campaign message as he has promised he will legalize if voted into power.
“He banned Okada; now he says he will legalize it. He was in favour of teacher licensure exams; now he says he will cancel it. He cancelled Arabic instructors allowance, which we have restored, and now he says he supports it. He said he wasn’t a magician to create jobs; now he says he will create one million jobs. When we introduced Free SHS, he said it was a hoax and 419; now he says he will expand it.”
Dr Bawumia who is currently on tour in the Ashanti Region, stressed on Mahama’s improbability exposing him of his insincerity noting the former President, after criticising the Akufo-Addo led administration for its free SHS policy and free Coronavirus water and electricity interventions, is now promising free primary health care.
“Mahama said free things are not good and he attacked us for giving Ghanaians relief with free electricity and water in the midst of covid. But now, he says he will give free primary health care.”
“When he was President, he advocated for the independence of the Electoral Commission, but he is now attacking the EC.”
“Where is the consistency and where is the credibility?”
